The Fourth of July holiday weekend kept officers from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources busy. They wrote more than 1,200 citations and warnings while on patrol of state parks and recreation areas.
Conservation police officers arrested 25 boaters for operating under the influence. Another five motorists were arrested for DUI.
They also investigated 14 boating accidents and performed routine safety inspections of more than 2,000 vessels.
Officers reported illegal activities such as possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, underage drinking and disorderly conduct. They also cited people for illegal fishing and a variety of boat safety and boating law violations.
Conservation Police Chief Rafael Gutierrez says most boaters enjoyed the holiday responsibly and safely.
