Clinton City Council Meeting Preview

The Clinton City council will convene for their second meeting of the month this evening.

Some topics on discussion for tonights meeting include entering into a 2-year contract with Dr. John Warner Hospital CEO Earl Sheehy. Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters explains the Mr. Sheehy can only get longer than a 1-year contract if approved by the City Council.

The Police Department has applied for a grant to get a new car. Mayor Peters explains the grant is for $20-thousand, and the projected costs of the vehicle is just over $21-thousand, which will be purchased from Baum Chevrolet in Clinton. The department has to spend $26-thousand or part of the grant money gets returned.

The City Council will also consider taking a stance on the Clinton Landfill issue. At their last meeting July 5, Tom Redington came forward representing the American Legion in Clinton. They recently passed a resolution opposing the dumping of PCB's into the Clinton Landfill, the Legion asked the City Council to take a stand on the issue, and Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters put it on file for tonight's meeting.

Other items on tonight's agenda include approving the replacement of tires on one of the Fire Department's fire trucks. The current tires have been on it for over 10 years. The council will also approve the the Plumbers and Pipefitters contract, officials note there are no major changes in the contract and there will be no pay increase as well.

The Clinton City Council will convene this evening at 7 pm at City Hall.
