Authorities say a 7-year-old has drowned in a swimming pool of a swim and golf club in Decatur

Macon County Coroner Michael E. Day says the boy, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool by lifeguards.

The Rev. Robert Mrosko says the boy was on a field trip to the Sun 'n Fun Swim & Golf Club with other children from the St. Paul's Lutheran Church day care center when the incident occurred.

Decatur Police Sgt. Steve Chabak says police and fire department emergency medical technicians were dispatched to the club early Tuesday. Chabak says when they arrived, swim club employees were trying to resuscitate the boy.

The victim was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
