A redistricting battle is brewing in Illinois. Republicans say the latest version of the legislative map violates the U.S. Constitution, the Illinois Constitution and the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. Republican leaders in both the House and Senate filed a lawsuit today, asking that a new, more fair map be drawn. Senate GOP Leader Christine Radogno says this lawsuit could've been avoided if Democratic leaders had given voters a chance to decide who drew the map. She says a constitutional amendment would have taken the process out of the hands of politicians and into those of an independent body. Now, she says, citizens must depend on the courts to protect their voting power.
