Former School Superintendent Imprisoned After 20 Years On The Run

He ran for nearly 20 years, but one former Illinois school superintendent is finally behind bars.  Dennis Catron was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand last month.  The former Hoopeston alderman and school superintendent for the Ludlow School District was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy in 1991.  Catron was arrested for the crime but posted bond and later fled the country to avoid prosecution.  While he was on the run he was found guilty in absentia and sentenced to 36 years in prison.  Authorities were tipped off last month when Catron reportedly tried to renew his passport at a U.S. Embassy in Thailand.  He appeared in a Vermillion County court yesterday and waived his right to a hearing.  He's now in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
