Twin brothers from Decatur have been sentenced to prison for their roles in the 2009 death of a man who was beaten and stomped on by a group of teen-agers.
A judge on Wednesday sentenced Fredrick Rhone to 20 years and Dedrick Rhone to 15 years in the death of 61-year-old Jerry Newingham. The 17-year-old twins reached plea agreements that included those sentences in exchange for pleading guilty to first-degree murder.
Newingham was attacked as he rode his bicycle in August 2009. Another man, 46-year-old Kevin Wilson, also was attacked.
Two other defendants have already been sent to prison in the case. Two more have been convicted of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder and await sentencing later this year.
