Blue Ridge's Mansfield Plans Moving Forward

The Blue Ridge School Districts plans for their Mansfield facilities continues to progress forward.

The district is looking to put an addition on at the Jr. High School. Susan Wilson is the Superintendent of Blue Ridge Schools, she feels because Mansfield Elementary and Jr. High share certain portions of their facilities, the project makes sense.

Currently the Board is seeking the input from the community. Wilson says so far the feedback has been positive. She notes making sure everyone in the district is aware of what is going on and making sure they are on board is the goal of the Board right now.

The Blue Ridge Board of Education will meet later this month and at that time will discuss the feedback they have received from the community. At that time, the decision will be made to move forward with their plans. Wilson feels if the Board can put bids out during the winter months they will get a better bid than if they were to put them out during the summer months.

Wilson hopes the new building would prompt an increase in enrollment numbers, as they are down. She adds the school board is aiming to complete the project without effecting the tax rate within the district. The district has been saving money for the project to keep from having to raise taxes.
