Medicare Open Enrollment Going on Now

There are important dates for those who benefit from Medicare within the coming months.

The dates for Medicare open enrollment are different this year, resulting in a shorter timespan to enroll than in the past. Leann Sosamon, the Senior Outreach coordinator of the Dewitt County Friendship Center, wants to make sure those who need to make changes in medicare are taken care of in time.

According to Sosamon, Medicare created an early cut off date in order to be able to keep up with all of the changes being made to the Illinois Cares Rx program. With recent changes to the program, she says there are several things seniors are able to do before they sign up to find the best rate.

Sosamon encourages seniors to not wait until the last minute to make an appointment with her. She notes her time will be limited as the deadline approaches. She also points out some necessary items that need to be brought to her as well. She says the two most important documents are identification and proof of income.
