Eagles' Freedom Flight 'A Really Joyous Moment'

Hundreds of people recently gathered at Starved Rock State Park to witness a little miracle. Actually, two little miracles.

Two young bald eagles were released into the wild, more than five months after a storm blew them 85 feet to the ground from their nest in suburban Chicago.

At the time, rescuers built a new nest for them in hopes that their parents would come back and care for them. But that didn't happen.

Instead, Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation in the Chicago area kept the eagles and helped them learn to fly.

They were recently released on Plum Island on the Illinois River, where officials say dozens of eagles make their home in the winter months.

The bald eagle has made a remarkable comeback in many states, including Illinois, after once being in danger of extinction.
