Illini Fall At Home To Wisconsin

>> Wisconsin Nip Illini At Home

Jordan Taylor scored 19 points and Jared Berggren added 18 to help Wisconsin upset No. 22 Illinois 67-63 on Sunday.

Taylor drove into the lane and hit a midrange jumper with 32 seconds left to give the Badgers (16-5, 5-3 Big Ten) a 62-57 lead with 32 seconds to play in what had been a back & forth battle.

Wisconsin has won four straight after dropping three consecutive conference games.

The Illini (15-5, 4-3) were led by Meyers Leonard's 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Joseph Bertrand added 15 points. D.J. Richardson contributed 13 points for the Illini and Brandon Paul had 10.

Illinois took a 50-46 lead with just over 9 minutes to play on a jumper by the 7-foot-1 Leonard. But the Badgers went on a 7-0 run to retake the lead.

The win was Wisconsin's fourth straight and moved the Badgers back toward the top of the Big Ten has after they had dropped to sixth place.

Illinois' loss was its second straight since an upset of then-No. 5 Ohio State lifted the Illini briefly to first place in the Big Ten. Since then they have been upset at Penn State and been beaten by the unranked Badgers, their first home loss of the season.

>> Evansville Tops ISU

Colt Ryan scored 20 points and Evansville turned two big first-half runs into a 79-71 victory over Illinois State on Saturday night.

The Purple Aces (10-9, 5-4 Missouri Valley) had runs of 15-2 and 15-5 to go on top 42-27 at halftime, and increased the lead to 23 points early in the second half.

An 8-0 run by Illinois State (12-8, 4-5) cut the deficit to 55-40, and a 3-pointer by Nic Moore made it 63-51 with 8:58 remaining. The Redbirds rallied within eight points twice down the stretch but could get no closer.

Ned Cox added 16 points, Kenny Harris and Denver Holmes had 14 each, and Troy Taylor finished with 11 for Evansville.

Moore led Illinois State with 17 points, and Tyler Brown had 14.

The teams split the season series after Illinois State won 75-73 in Normal, Ill., on Jan. 7.
