State Still Owes Blue Ridge Schools Half Million Dollars

Like most school districts around Illinois, the Blue Ridge School district has not received the money they were expecting from the state.

Susan Wilson is the Superintendent of the Blue Ridge School district. She says currently they are very close to where they would like to be financially with the money they have. She says their revenues and expenses are right on par with where they thought they would be at the mid-point of the fiscal year.

The state owes the Blue Ridge district nearly 400-thousand dollars as of January 1. Wilson says they are paying their General State Aid but are behind in their expenses that cover transportation, their pre-K program, and lunches among other programs.

Wilson explains, within the last 10 years, the Blue Ridge district fell on tough financial times leading them to implement a policy stating they would have a minimum of three months cash reserves on hand for economic times we are in. She says the district currently has the minimum amount required in their reserves, and speculates a recovery by the Illinois economy could be several years away.
