Officials Break Up Drug Operation In Western Illinois

Local and federal law enforcement officials say they've broken up a drug operation in western Illinois that helped distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana.

The drug operation in Knox County had been going on for 17 years.

U.S. Attorney James Lewis announced at the Knox County sheriff's department Wednesday that a dozen people from the area were arrested a day earlier. They face federal charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana based on a grand jury indictment.

All 12 were expected to make initial federal court appearances Wednesday afternoon. Each could face between 10 years and life in prison if convicted.
