United Way Seeking DeWitt County Volunteers

The United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois has a couple of volunteer opportunities.

The United Way is in the middle of their yearly campaign which raises money for agencies in DeWitt County that the United Way supports. Director of Community Impact, Chad Clevenger explains all the money raised from that campaign in DeWitt County stays in DeWitt County. Clevenger explains at the conclusion of the campaign, community volunteers gather and hear presentations from the different agencies on their programs and how they are making a difference, and then the committee has to decide how each dollar is divided between the organizations.

The United Way selects community volunteers to help distribute the money. Clavenger wants an even mix of people who have been a part of the distributing process and newcomers to the process. He says there are no qualifications to be a part of the process and feels having a mix of young old and everywhere in between is what it takes to make good decisions.

There is also an opportunity to help serve the United Way by being a part of their Board of Directors. Clevenger explains the United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illiois has a Board of Directors for the whole agency, but they also have a Board of Directors in each County as well.

Clevenger notes the United Way would like to see a couple of area farmers become involved with the United Way's DeWitt County Board. He feels being on the Board is not a great time commitment, but it is a great experience.
