If you live in Clinton, you may notice your garbage bill is higher when you receive your quarterly AREA bill.

Rates for the garbage disposal are going up just slightly. Each year, AREA looks at their rates and they can raise them a certain amount, according to their contract with the City of Clinton. Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters says each February they evaluate their rates, and this year they will be raising rates by 2.1% increase per month.

Questions have recently been raised about AREA's methods of recycling and what happens to the materials Clintonians place into their recycling containers. Mayor Peters says AREA will be opening up their doors tomorrow afternoon for residents to come out and see what exactly they do with the recycled materials.
