Allerton Park Bridge Being Restored

A portion Allerton Park in Monticello is getting a makeover.

One of the two bridges that lead into the park has been out of commission for some time now and the University of Illinois owned park is getting it completely redone. Monticello Mayor Chris Corrie says the city is very excited about the project because the bridge leads right to their downtown area and then out towards the beautiful park.

The state is funding the project through the U of I. Mayor Corrie applauds the hard work their local legislators to secure the funds for the project.

According to Mayor Corrie, to preserve the history of the bridge would have doubled the cost. He says it will be a more modern bridge because of the importance to take advantage of the funding and having a usable bridge.

Mayor Corrie explains he has found Monticello and Allerton Park are traditionally closely associated with each other. He says the city and those associated with the park are very excited to see the bridge finally receiving restoration attention.
