Four new plaques were added to the Wall during ceremonies held Friday night at CCHS.  Superintendent Dr. Jeff Holmes explains those recognized on the display represent some of the best that Clinton High has to offer.  He says Clinton's display is unique in the fact that it's not limited to just athletic achievement, but rather lifetime achievements.

Two of this year's inductees were honored posthumously.

Tom Steward was a graduate of CCHS Class of 1961.  His list of accomplishments include many awards in basketball, baseball, and football while at Clinton High School, as well as a distinguished collegiate athletic career.

Judge Stephen H. Peters was also inducted this year.  His list of achievements include numerous activities while enrolled at CCHS, and a successful career as an attorney and judge.  His widow, Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters, was in attendance on his behalf, and says Judge Peters would've been very honored.

The other two honorees this year include Tyrone Bird, who is a member of the CCHS Class of 2001.  Bird, who was unable to attend the ceremony because he was coaching wrestling for Lincoln-Way East High School in the IHSA State Tournament, was recognized for his long list of wrestling and football accomplishments while attending Clinton High.  He also helped lead the University of Illinois wrestling program to success while attending there.

Also honored was Myra Westray, who is a member of the CCHS Class of 1936.  She served as a teacher at Clinton High for 30 years, and is also notable for being appointed as DeWitt County Sheriff during World War II - becoming only the second female sheriff in Illinois.  Westray looks back at her time at CCHS fondly.

Those inducted to the CCHS "Wall of Honor" are nominated by the public.  A committee of community leaders reviews the nominations each year, and selects those to be inducted.  There are now 24 Clinton High alumni recognized on the Wall, which located near the Sports Entrance at Clinton High School.
