DeWitt County Soil & Water Conservation District Annual Meeting Recap

 width=The DeWitt County Soil & Water Conservation District wrapped up a successful 2011 with it's 68th annual meeting Friday.

Around one hundred people turned out Friday morning to take part in the meeting hosted at the Clinton Country Club.  SWCD Chairman Myron Kirby presided over the event, and says - despite faltering state support in recent years -the DeWitt County district is in good shape heading into 2012.

 width=One of the major accomplishments for the local SWCD in 2011 was the completion of the Clinton Lake Shoreline Restoration Project.  Shelley Finfrock, Resource Conservationist, explains the project brought several groups together in an attempt to combat erosion issues at the Mascoutin State Recreation Area.

The district also announced plans for continued improvements in the Clinton Lake watershed.  Finfrock says they're working with a number of groups in an attempt to introduce a cost share program for conservation improvements.

More details about the new program will be announced in the future.

 width=Representatives from the NRCS, FSA, and U of I Extension Office also updated the crowd on their available programs.  The entertainment for the event was provided by country music singer and comedian Wes Wheeler from Shelbyville.  A number of door prizes were also given away to those in attendance thanks to the support of several local businesses.
