Weber Says This is The Leonard He'd Hoped For In Illini Win

Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber says Meyers Leonard's 22-point, 14-rebound performance in Sunday' win over Iowa was the way he envisioned the 7-1 center playing all year.

Leonard's double-double was a big part of the reason the Illini (17-12, 6-10 Big Ten) snapped a 6-game losing streak with the 65-54 win over Iowa. The sophomore has been up and down in a season of struggle for Illinois

Leonard came off the bench after losing his starting spot in competitive drills in practice. Weber says those drills will continue this week.

Illinois is trying against long odds to play its way back onto the NCAA Tournament bubble.

Weber says the Illinois need to beat Michigan but acknowledged that won't be easy. Michigan (21-8, 11-5) has won 4 of its last five.
