Wisconsin Unit Helping Farmers In Afghanistan

A Wisconsin National Guard unit has taken over the mission of helping farmers in Afghanistan.

The 82nd Agribusiness Development Team is the Wisconsin National Guard's first such unit. It has taken over the mission of improving civilian skills crucial to agricultural success in Kunar Province.

Team commander Col. Darrel Feucht says it has been a long road in assembling the unit and training its members, but it's now ready to provide guidance to the Afghan farming community. The Wisconsin National Guard learned it would get an agribusiness development mission in 2010. The unit trained for 12 months before reporting for active duty in February and completing mobilization training at Camp Atterbury, Ind.

The mission was transferred from the Illinois National Guard in a ceremony last week.
