(Boston, MA) -- The Chicago Cubs have traded outfielder Marlon Byrd to the Boston Red Sox. The Cubs will receive right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden and a player to be named later. Byrd is making $6.5-million this year in the final season of a three-year, $15-million deal. The BoSox have outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford on the disabled list. The 34-year-old Byrd is a career .278 hitter with 81 home runs and 438 RBI over 11 seasons.

(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago Cubs placed pitcher Ryan Dempster on the 15-day disabled Saturday with a strained right quad. The move is retroactive to April 18th. Dempster has yet to earn a win this season despite a 1.33 earned run average in three starts. The right-hander has recorded 23 strikeouts in 20-and-a-third innings.
