Rep. Mitchell Re-Introduces Grounding State's Airfleet

Earlier this year State Representative Bill Mitchell said Illinois has the largest air fleet of the 50 states and called for them to be grounded until the eight billion dollar deficit has been paid off. Mitchell says the fleet costs $3-thousand per hour of use and is worth almost $22-million.

Wednesday as the Public Safety Appropriations committee met to discuss and hear requests for the FY13 budget, Mitchell once again questioned officials on the need for the fleet at a time when the state is facing such financial difficulties.

According to Mitchell, the state pays for daily air shuttles between Chicago and Springfield; back and forth in the morning and the evening. He cites other states,  larger than Illinois who do not provide daily shuttles via aircraft for their legislators, such as Texas and California.
