A legislative panel votes seven to three to keep Murray Developmental Center off of Governor Quinn's chopping block. That's good news to State Senator John O. Jones, who says Quinn hasn't provided a solid plan to close the facility.

Jones says today's vote is a step in the right direction, now it's up to lawmakers and families to keep pressure on Quinn to actually heed the panel's advice. The panel's vote is non-binding, which means Quinn is not obligated to take it into consideration. He can move forward with the closure plan anyhow, but no governor has ever shut down a facility after the panel has voted against doing so.
