Cubs, Cards, Sox Win; Chris Sale To MRI On Elbow

>>Cards Sweep Snakes

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  Matt Carpenter's two-run double in the sixth inning was the difference as the Cardinals cruised to a 7-2 win over the Diamondbacks.  St. Louis piled on four runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run double by Matt Holliday and a two-run homer by Allen Craig.  Kyle Lohse tossed five frames of one-run ball to improve to 5-and-1 on the season.  Jason Motte got the final three outs to nail down his sixth save for the Cards, who swept the three-game set at Chase Field and have won four straight overall.  Wade Miley and Aaron Hill each plated a run for Arizona in a losing effort.  On the mound, Miley gave up three runs on 10 hits through five-and-two-third innings of duty to absorb the loss for the D'backs, who have lost five in-a-row.

>>Maholm Sharp Again As Cubs Blank Braves

(Chicago, IL)  --  Paul Maholm combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as the Cubs shut out the Braves, 1-0.  Maholm scattered three hits and three walks over seven innings to improve to 4-and-2.  James Russell and Rafael Dolis finished up, with Dolis notching his third save.  Bryan LaHair singled in the game's only run in the seventh as Chicago took two-of-three at Wrigley Field.  Tim Hudson pitched seven innings of one-run ball to take the tough-luck loss for Atlanta.

>>White Sox Topple Tribe

(Cleveland, OH)  --  Adam Dunn mashed a two-run homer to back seven stellar innings from Jake Peavy as the White Sox crushed the Indians, 8-1.  Peavy fanned five and allowed just one run on seven hits to improve to 4-and-1 on the season.  Alejandro De Aza's two-run single highlighted a six-run fourth frame for Chicago, which has won back-to-back games on the heels of a three-game slide.  Jason Donald's RBI groundout in the seventh accounted for Cleveland's lone run of the game.  Jeanmar Gomez gave up all eight runs through six-and-two-third frames to suffer the loss for the Indians in the finale of the four-game set.

>>Sale To Have MRI On Left Elbow

(Chicago, IL)  --  Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper says Chris Sale will have an MRI on his left elbow.  The MRI will reportedly be done today.  Sale had compiled a 3-and-1 record with a 2.81 ERA as a starter before the team shifted him to the bullpen due to elbow tenderness.  In his first stint in the 'pen on Tuesday, he gave up an unearned run and blew the save, but the ChiSox ended up winning the game 5-3 in extra innings.
