Cubs Win; Sox, Cards Lose

>>Cubs Salvage Series Finale With Crew

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Ian Stewart and Reed Johnson both blasted solo home runs and the Cubs scored six unanswered run en route to an 8-2 win over the Brewers.  Tony Campana, Starlin Castro, Alfonso Soriano and Darwin Barney all knocked in a run for Chicago, which salvaged the finale of a three-game set at Miller Park.  Jeff Samardzija struck out six through five frames of one-run ball, but it was Shawn Camp who was credited with the win.  Taylor Green plated both of Milwaukee's runs in a losing effort.  Kameron Loe was saddled with the loss for the Crew, who wrapped up a six-game homestand with a mark of 3-and-3.

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Jason Heyward hit a bases-clearing double in the top of the third inning as the Braves held on to top the Cardinals, 7-4.  Freddie Freeman and Dan Uggla each added an RBI double for Atlanta, which completed the three-game sweep at Busch Stadium.  Tommy Hanson tossed five-plus innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts for the win.  Allen Craig hit a three-run home run in the ninth for St. Louis, which was riding a four-game win streak heading into this series.  Carlos Beltran added a solo shot in the setback.  Lance Lynn fell to 6-and-1 after giving up three runs over six frames.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Royals put down the White Sox with a six-run ninth inning to nail shut a 9-1 win.  The rally was keyed by Chicago reliever Addison Reed's three walks.  Jeff Francoeur hit his first home run of the season in the eighth inning for the Royals, who have won four of their last five games.  Royals starter Danny Duffy left the game in the first inning with an apparent left arm injury and Luis Mendoza grabbed his second win of the season.  Paul Konerko accounted for the only White Sox run with an RBI single.  Phil Humber struck out seven in six-and-two-thirds innings and gave up one-run.  Reliever Matt Thornton was tagged with the loss for Chicago as they dropped their second-straight game.
