Some Electronics Waste Getting Dumped; Not Recycled

Officials in central Illinois say some residents are dumping their electronic waste along country roads rather than taking the items to be recycled.

Since Jan. 1, Illinois residents have been required to take electronic devices - including computers and TVs - to a registered recycler.

But Bob Shaw of Pekin's Streets and Solid Waste Department says they're seeing a dumping problem, mostly outside city limits.

Cincinnati Township Road Commissioner Ron Hawkins says there was a 200-foot long strip of computer and TV debris dumped on one road recently.

Brad Frick of Going Green Computers says the problem with Illinois' new law is that the only thing enforcing it is the good conscience of people who want to do the right thing.
