Childrens Advocacy Center's Champions For Childrens Walk Saturday A Success

The McLean County Child Protection Network, supporting the Children’s Advocacy Center and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs, hosted the 5th annual Champions for Children Walk this past Saturday.

Sixty walkers joined in to raise awareness and donations for the services the center offers to abused and neglected children. Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center in McLean, DeWitt and Livingston Counties, Judy Brucker explains this is an event that takes place all over the state.

Funding for the Advocacy Center comes primarily through grants and fundraising. And while the Champions for Children Walk is designed to be a fundraiser, Brucker says it is also aimed to keep communities informed of what it is they are doing.

In 2011, Illinois Children’s Advocacy Centers coordinated almost 10-thousand investigations of child sexual abuse and CASA programs statewide advocated for almost 6-thousand abused and neglected children living in foster care.  Locally, 486 abused and neglected children were served through McLean, Livingston and DeWitt Children’s Advocacy Centers and CASA program.
