Lawmaker Proposes More Online Gambling

Illinois gamblers will have quite a few Internet gaming options if Senate President John Cullerton has his way.  He wants to create a "Division of Online Gambling" within the state's lottery system.  The idea is to establish Illinois as a premiere online gambling hotspot and draw people from around the world.   Cullerton says it can boost the state's treasury by hundreds of millions of dollars.  It's a proposal that could pass before lawmakers wrap up session on May 31st.  Cullerton says it's important to get a jump start on Internet gambling so other states don't beat them to the punch.  Illinois was the first state to allow online lottery sales back in March.  The idea initially met some resistance but Cullerton is positive that online gambling can be done in a manner that protects consumers, provides logical and responsible regulation, and advances the public good.  If enacted, the state's iGaming Division could be up and running within the next year.  Part of the plan is to organize the first major poker pool that reaches people on a national and international level.
