Members of Clinton High School Girls Track Heading To State Finals

Clinton High School's girls track team will take their record setting season to the IHSA State Tournament this weekend.

The team was bumped up from Class 1A to 2A at the start of this year. Head Coach of the Lady Maroons, Randy Anderson said he was a little skeptical the team could make it out of their Sectional because the qualifying times were two and three seconds faster than the school records.

This has been a special year for the lady Maroons as the girls have broken multiple school records. The team competed Monday and broke a record, and Coach Anderson explains, they came off, by their standards a poor performance and still broke a school record.

Despite several record breaking meets, the Lady Maroons have had a hard time breaking through at meets where they face off against Sullivan. Coach Anderson explains Sullivan has a very good team this year and each time they meet Sullivan they get closer and closer to them. Since a majority of the Lady Maroons are juniors, they have a lot to look forward to in the future.

Coach Anderson credits his relay runners for continuing to support the individual runners. He explains relay runners give up individual events to be in the relays.

The girls compete this weekend at the State Finals.
