Household Hazardous Waste Collections Scheduled For Illinois

Household hazardous waste collections have been scheduled in six Illinois communities for spring and fall.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced the schedule Thursday.

The events give citizens the opportunity to safely dispose of unused and leftover household products such as paint thinners, motor oils and insecticides. The materials are handled in an environmentally correct manner, redirecting them from local area landfills.

This year's collections are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The first will be in Carbondale on June 2.

Other collections area set for Quincy on June 23, Peoria on Sept. 8, Swansea on Sept. 15, Springfield on Sept. 22 and Champaign-Urbana on Sept. 29.

Among the items accepted are batteries, fluorescent lamps and unwanted pharmaceuticals.
