Rose Passing Child Care Law

The Illinois House Wednesday unanimously approved more money for the Child Care Assistance Program, which has already run out of funds for the current fiscal year.  The Senate Bill passed with a vote of 113-3, but numerous lawmakers, such as State Representative Chapin Rose, were  upset with Gov. Pat Quinn for what Rose said was mismanagement of the Fiscal Year 2012 budget.

According to Rose, the legislature fully funded child-care programs last year before the Governor redirected the money to help pay for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, leaving the child-care providers scrambling for money to pay their bills.

Quinn diverted money allocated for child-care providers to help pay for the state's welfare program, known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. The funding shift left child-care providers scrambling for money to pay their bills.

Like many others who were upset at the Governor’s move, Rose indicated his support for the measure but with the upcoming budget currently taking shape, it is also imperative that the Governor recognize that he has to live within the means of 2013 budget.
