Animal Control Officer Arrested For Animal Cruelty

An animal control officer in Decatur is in jail for abusing the pets he was supposed to protect.  Police responded to an apartment complex to investigate the smell of a dead animal but when they got there, they discovered it was coming from an animal control truck.  They found a dead hedgehog and a live kitten inside.  Officials say the worker knew the hedgehog was in the truck but he had unintentionally left the cat inside.  It had been locked in the truck with no air or food for at least two days.  It suffered from dehydration but is expected to make a full recovery.  The animal control officer has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
