Miller Park Zoo Records Record Numbers Last Year

The Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington recorded one of their best year's ever.

Superintendent of the Miller Park Zoo, Jay Tetzloff explains this year the zoo had over 100-thousand guests, which resulted in the third largest crowd, and resulted in the largest amount of revenue brought in. The zoo has been open over 120 years.

With the downturn in the economy the past few years, Tetzloff says many people with sacrifice an expensive vacation for a small local trip. He adds it's not uncommon for zoos to experience success when there is a lull in the economy.

A rare breed of goat at the Miller Park Zoo is the latest animal to give birth at the facility.  “Bella,” one of the Zoo’s San Clemente Goats, has given birth to a kid. The goats are native to San Clemente Island, one of the Channel Islands off the coast of California.  The goats are listed as a critically endangered heritage breed.  The global population of San Clemente Island Goats is under 500. Miller Park Zoo is home to four adult San Clemente Island Goats: three females, Bella, Valencia, and Breeze, and one male, Poseidon.  Each of the adults is one to two years old.

The birth of the goats should help boost the zoo's early summer attendance numbers.
