(Chicago, IL) -- Alfonso Soriano homered to back seven solid innings from Jeff Samardzija as the Cubs beat the Padres, 5-3. Darwin Barney went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs scored as Chicago won its second straight on the heels of a 12-game losing streak. Samardzija fanned eight while allowing three runs for his fifth win. He also singled in a run to help his own cause. Eric Stults gave up four runs in six-and-a-third frames to take the loss for San Diego. Carlos Quentin hit his first home run of the year and Will Venable had an RBI triple for the Padres.

(Atlanta, GA) -- Dan Uggla clubbed a three-run homer and Michael Bourn added a solo shot to lead the Braves in a 5-4 win over the Cardinals. Jose Constanza scored on a wild pitch to account for Atlanta's other run. Randall Delgado tossed five-and-a-third frames of three-run ball to pick up the win and Craig Kimbrel locked down his 14th save of the season for the Braves, who snapped an eight-game slide. Yadier Molina finished 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBI for St. Louis. Jake Westbrook allowed all five runs, four earned, in five innings of duty to absorb the loss.

Viciedo also scored three times, while Alexei Ramirez plated a pair of runs in Chicago's seventh straight win. Phil Humber tossed seven innings of two-run ball to earn his first win since tossing a perfect game on April 21st. Hideki Matsui hit a two-run homer in his debut with the Rays. James Shields allowed six runs, five earned, in six innings to fall to 6-and-3.

(Detroit, MI) -- Magglio Ordonez is formally retiring from Major League Baseball. The six-time All-Star will make it official during a pre-game ceremony in Detroit on Sunday. Ordonez spent the final seven seasons of his 15-year career with the Tigers, helping Detroit reach the 2006 World Series. The 38-year-old finishes his career with more than 21-hundred hits, a .309 batting average and 294 home runs. Ordonez played his first eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox.
