Gov. Pat Quinn says he was disturbed by a report that found that dozens of cases of alleged abuse against disabled people went uninvestigated by the Illinois Department of Human Services.

The agency announced Friday that it is "re-evaluating the role" of its Office of the Inspector General..

It was found that since 2003, the inspector general failed to investigate 53 cases called into the agency's hotline. Callers told of disabled adults who were abused or neglected by caregivers and later died.

On Saturday, Quinn said he was "disturbed to read that" and that he is looking into the issue. He indicated some cases could be reopened, saying "whatever's necessary to get to the truth is what ought to be done."
