Bloomington Minor League Football In Jeopardy

A Bloomington businessman could be on the hook for a 30-thousand dollar penalty if the U.S. Cellular Coliseum’s indoor football team folds.   The future of the Bloomington Edge football team and the Central Illinois Drive basketball team is uncertain after owner Jim Morris announced he wants to sell all or some of the teams.  The announcement surprised both Coliseum and city of Bloomington officials.  Morris says he invested a lot of money in both teams but found that minor league sports “is a difficult business to succeed in.”  The Edge and Drive drew about 47-thousand fans to the Coliseum last year, about 16 percent of the venue’s total attendance in the fiscal year that ended April 30.  Morris is now actively looking for buyers and at least one group has already expressed interest.
