Cubs Sweep, Cards Swept; Sale Dominant

(Chicago, IL)  --  Matt Garza fired seven shutout innings as the Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks with a 3-1 victory.  Garza struck out seven while allowing five hits and one walk as he improved his mark to 5-and-7.  Carlos Marmol recorded the final two outs for his 10th save.  Darwin Barney hit a two-run homer and Anthony Rizzo plated a run for the Cubs, who have won 10 of their last 13 games.  Aaron Hill homered in the eighth for Arizona, which had won three in-a-row before the All-Star break.  Trevor Cahill permitted three runs in five-and-a-third frames as he dipped to 7-and-8.

(Cincinnati, OH)  --  Scott Rolen plated a pair with a single in the eighth as the Reds completed a three-game sweep of the Cardinals with a 4-2 victory.  Brandon Phillips added an RBI single and Joey Votto doubled in a run for Cincinnati, which moves a game ahead of Pittsburgh for first place in the NL Central.  Homer Bailey gave up one earned run over eight frames for the win.  Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth to lock up his 13th save.  Yadier Molina hit a solo homer and added an RBI double for St. Louis.  Jake Westbrook surrendered four runs over seven-and-a-third innings to take the loss.

(Kansas City, MO)  --  Chris Sale tossed eight innings of one-run ball to pace the White Sox to a 2-1 win over the Royals.  Sale improved to 11-and-2 on the season, while Addison Reed recorded his 14th save.  Adam Dunn drilled a solo shot in the first for Chicago, which took two-of-three in the series.  Luis Mendoza gave up two runs in seven-and-a-third frames for the loss.  Chris Getz knocked in the lone RBI for Kansas City, which is 3-and-8 in July.
