GOP Leaders Want Gov. Quinn To Take Leadership Role On Pension Reform

Republican leaders say they want Gov. Pat Quinn to take a leadership role in passing a comprehensive pension reform bill.

House Minority Leader Tom Cross and Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno issued a joint statement Monday after Quinn announced he's calling lawmakers to Springfield next month for a 1-day session on pensions.

In the statement, the Republicans say they're encouraged by the session and support comprehensive reform.

However, pension talks between legislative leaders have been fruitless after the General Assembly failed to approve a reform plan earlier in the year.

Quinn wants suburban Chicago and downstate school districts to pay their own pension costs. But Republicans have opposed it.

Quinn wants legislators to work with existing legislation to find a solution when they convene Aug. 17.
