Cards Top Mets; Cubs, Sox Crushed

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Jaime Garcia allowed an unearned run over seven-and-a-third innings as the Cardinals dropped the Mets, 5-1.  Jon Jay went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Yadier Molina was 2-for-3 with a run scored for St. Louis, which has won three-of-four.  Matt Holliday left the game in the seventh with tightness in his lower back.  Matt Harvey allowed three runs across five frames of work to suffer the loss for New York.  Mike Baxter's sac-fly in the eight gave the Mets their lone run.  New York has dropped two straight since winning three in-a-row.

(Washington, DC)  --  Adam LaRoche hit two solo homers as the Nationals pounded the Cubs, 11-5.  Ian Desmond added a two-run shot and drove in four runs while Ryan Zimmerman and Jesus Flores each hit solo shots.  Tyler Moore also connected on a two-run shot for Washington, which has won six of its last seven.  Edwin Jackson gave up four runs over five-and-two-thirds innings to register the win.  Chris Rusin allowed five runs in just one inning of work to take the loss for Chicago.  Alfonso Soriano hit a solo homer and added a two-run triple while Starlin Castro added two RBI in the loss.  The Cubs have lost four straight games.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Minnesota plated 10 runs in the fifth on its way to an 18-9 win over the White Sox.  Chris Parmelee hit a three-run homer and drove in four while Ryan Doumit added a solo shot and plated three runs.  Scott Diamond allowed four runs over five innings to improve to 11-and-6.  The Twins had lost back-to-back games.  Dewayne Wise went 2-for-3 with two RBI for Chicago, which jumped out to a three-run lead early before falling down an inning later.  Jose Quintana surrendered seven runs in one-and-a-third innings of work as the Sox lost their seventh game in nine contests.
