Navy cross country freshman and Monticello High School graduate Steve Schroeder, was named the M-F Athletic Patriot League Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference today. Schroeder helped Navy to a second-place finish at the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday by taking 21st overall.

In his first-career meet, Schroeder posted a time of 20:51 in the 6.4k race. As a team, the Mids placed ahead of the other four Patriot League schools in the field, with Schroeder finishing 27 seconds ahead of the next-closest freshman from a League competitor.

Schroeder is the first Midshipman to garner Patriot League Rookie of the Week laurels since C.J. Elward on Oct. 18, 2010.
