Exhibit Of Fallen Soldiers On Tour

A traveling exhibit highlighting hand-sketched portraits of fallen Illinois service members is on display in southern Illinois.

It's called "Portrait of a Soldier" and features about 300 fallen soldiers who have been killed since Sept. 11, 2001. It's been in Troy and Tinley Park.

The event will be on display in Centralia starting Tuesday at Kaskaskia College and will be available for viewing until Sept. 24.

The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs says the first portrait was drawn by Mattoon artist Cameron Schilling in 2004 after a Mattoon soldier was killed. Schilling gave the drawing to the soldier's parent to express his sympathy for this loss.

Since then he's decided to draw a portrait of every fallen Illinois service member.
