Cards Top Dodgers; Sox/Tigers Washed Out

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Allen Craig hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to help the Cardinals clip the Dodgers, 2-1, in the first of a big four-game series.  Skip Schumaker also knocked in a run for St. Louis, which snapped a three-game slide.  Lance Lynn gave up a run and struck out seven over six frames for the win.  Jason Motte locked up his 34th save.  Adrian Gonzalez drove in the lone run for Los Angeles, which has lost four in-a-row.  Steven Rodriguez took the loss in relief.  The Cards are two games ahead of L.A. for the final NL Wild Card spot.

>>White Sox-Tigers Postponed Last Night

(Chicago, IL)  --  Last night's series finale between the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers was postponed due to rain.  Chicago won the series-opener on Monday, but Detroit answered with two straight wins to pull within one game of the AL Central-leading White Sox heading into the finale.  The game will be made up on Monday, September 17th.  The Southsiders kick off a three-game series at Minnesota this evening.  Francisco Liriano is expected to toe the rubber against Cole De Vries in the opener.

>>Cubs Host Pirates At Wrigley

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Chicago Cubs open up a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon at Wrigley Field.  Chris Rusin gets gets the nod opposite James McDonald in the opener.  The Northsiders have won five of their last six games to improve to 56-and-87 on the season.  They took two-of-three at Houston in their last series.
