Lincoln Man Found Dead After Fatal Accident

A Lincoln man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with police Saturday morning.

65-year old Michael Foster, of Lincoln, was involved in a crash on Lincoln’s west side the previous night according Illinois State Police. A motorcyclist died in the accident and a passenger riding on the motorcycle was injured.

According to police, Foster was traveling south in his pickup truck on Old Route 121 near the intersection of Lincoln Parkway Friday night.

At that time a Harley Davison motorcycle was traveling northbound and the motorcycle collided with the passenger’s side of Foster’s truck. A 43-year-old Hartsburg man, was the driver of the motorcycle who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Logan County coroner’s office. The identities of the two motorcycle victims have not yet been released.

Foster was treated for injuries, but returned to his Lincoln home. According to authorities, Lincoln police responded to report from a friend that Foster had barricaded himself in his home Saturday morning and may be suicidal.

Neighbors were evacuated from their homes and Illinois State Police, a SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.

Authorities report at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the SWAT team was able to gain access into the house and found the victim dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
