White Sox Extend Central Lead; Pirates Blank Cubs After Long Rain Delay

(Chicago, IL)  --  Omar Infante's throwing error on a potential double play relay let the tying and go-ahead runs score as the White Sox trimmed the Tigers, 5-4.  Alex Rios took out Infante with a hard slide that led to the errant throw and helped Chicago extend its AL Central lead to three games over Detroit.  Dewayne Wise went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Sox.  Nate Jones got the win in relief and Addison Reed his 27th save.  Delmon Young had two hits and drove in three for the Tigers, who blew 3-0 and 4-3 leads.  Doug Fister allowed all five runs in four-plus frames to suffer the loss.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Kevin Correia and two relievers combined on a two-hitter as the Pirates blanked the Cubs, 3-0, in the finale of a four-game series.  Rain delayed the start of the game for nearly four hours.  Travis Wood allowed all three runs in five-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 6-and-12 for the Cubs, who split the series.  The Cubs start a three-game set at home against Cincinnati tonight as Justin Germano takes the mound against Homer Bailey.

(St. Louis, MO)  --  The Cardinals open a three-game set with the Astros tonight at Busch Stadium.  Kyle Lohse will start for the Redbirds against Houston's Fernando Abad.  The Cards enter the series one game up on the Dodgers for the final NL Wild Card spot.
