Cards Win; Sox Lose Big Game; Cubs Lose Late

(Kansas City, MO)  --  Alex Gordon laced a two-run double as the Royals blanked the White Sox, 3-0.  Billy Butler added an RBI for Kansas City, which has won 11 of its 17 meetings with Chicago this season.  Bruce Chen tossed six-and-two-thirds scoreless innings to improve to 11-and-12.  Greg Holland earned his 14th save.  Chris Sale fanned eight, but allowed all three runs in six-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 17-and-7.  The White Sox had their winning streak stopped at five.  Chicago's lead over Detroit in the AL Central is down to two.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Drew Stubbs' RBI single in the top of the 11th gave the Reds a 6-5 win over the Cubs.  Stubbs had three hits and scored three times for the Reds, who reduced their magic number to win the NL Central to three.  Joey Votto added two hits and three RBI in the victory.  Logan Ondrusek was credited with the win.  Jonathan Broxton earned his fourth save.  Alfonso Soriano belted a two-run homer for Chicago.  Alberto Cabrera took the loss.

(St. Louis, MO)  --  David Freese clubbed a two-run homer to back six-and-a-third scoreless innings from Lance Lynn as the Cardinals cruised to a 5-0 win over the Astros.  Lynn fanned five and allowed just three hits with two walks to improve to 16-and-7 on the season.  Jason Motte registered the final two outs to nail down his 37th save.  Yadier Molina popped a solo homer, while Matt Holliday and Allen Craig each knocked in a run for St. Louis, which has won three games in-a-row.  Lucas Harrell gave up three runs during five-and-two-third frames to suffer the loss for Houston.
