Cards Move Closer To WC Spot; Sox Tied With Detroit For 1st

(Houston, TX)  --  Jaime Garcia tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the Cardinals in a 4-0 win over Houston.  Jon Jay had a pair of RBI while Pete Kozma added an RBI double for St. Louis.  Yadier Molina also drove in a run for the Cards, who are four-and-a-half games clear of the Brewers for the second NL Wild Card spot.  Lucas Harrell gave up two runs and walked six in five innings to suffer the loss.  Jose Altuve and Brandon Laird each managed two hits for the Astros, who have lost three straight and already clinched the worst record in the league.

(Denver, CO)  --  Matt McBride hit a three-run homer as the Rockies ripped the Cubs, 10-5, in a rain-shortened opener of a three-game series.  The game was called in the seventh inning.  Josh Rutledge and Tyler Colvin had two RBI apiece for the Rockies in their second straight win.  Carlos Torres was credited with his fifth win.  Dave Sappelt and Starlin Castro went deep for Chicago, which has dropped seven-of-eight.  Chris Rusin allowed six runs in only three-and-two-thirds to fall to 1-and-3.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Corey Kluber and two relievers combined on a six-hitter as the Indians edged the White Sox, 4-3.  Russ Canzler went 3-for-4 with a home run as Cleveland built an early 4-0 lead and hung on to even the three-game set at a game apiece.  Kluber pitched seven innings of two-run ball for the win.  Chris Perez gave up a solo homer to Paul Konerko in the ninth before posting his 37th save.  Francisco Liriano took the loss for Chicago.  A.J. Pierzynski and Dayan Viciedo hit back-to-back home runs for the White Sox in the fifth.  Chicago is now tied with Detroit atop the AL Central after the Tigers beat Kansas City.
