Bust Honoring Richard Pryor Unveiled in Peoria

Legendary comedian and Peoria native Richard Pryor has been honored by an artist in his hometown.

R. Rashad Reed's ceramic bust of the late entertainer was unveiled to the public Thursday at John H. Gwynn Park. Reed says that Pryor is an icon and a notable part of Peoria's history.

Pryor was born in Peoria in 1940 and grew up in his grandmother's brothel in the central Illinois community. He went on to be known for his stand-up performances and films such as "Silver Streak" and "Stir Crazy." He died in 2005.

The comedian's son, Richard Pryor Jr., attended Thursday's ceremony in Peoria. He says it is great to see the city come together to honor his father.
