DNR Seeing Illegal Deer Dumping In Early Hunting Season

width=The Department of Natural Resources wants to remind hunters as they start the hunting season to properly dispose of those deer carcasses.

DNR Conservation Police Officer Ray Wichus says each year this becomes an issue. Officer Wichus feels this is a problem that can easily be rectified if hunters will take the time to dispose of the carcasses properly. He says improperly disposing of them makes hunters look bad.

With bow season already underway, the deer harvest for 2012 has begun. Officer Wichus says so far this year he has already seen carcasses being dumped on the sides of roads and in waterways. He says that is illegal, but they can be dumped in wooded areas, with the proper permission.

Once a deer carcasses has been found illegally dumped, it is very difficult for DNR CPOs to track down who was responsible. Officer Wichus says while dealing with the carcasses in illegal areas can be frustrating, he says more than a majority of hunters will properly dispose of the remains of their deer.

Officer Wichus encourages anyone who knows of an illegal dumping of deer carcasses to contact their regional DNR Office or your local Sheriff's Department. He adds your name is not necessary and they will not use it when confronting the hunter.
