Early Voting Sets Record In Cook County Suburbs

The Cook County clerk says suburban Chicago voters set a record on the first day of early voting.

Cook County Clerk David Orr says more than 13,500 ballots were cast in suburban Cook County on Monday, the first day of early voting in Illinois. Orr's office says voters were in line when early voting sites closed at 5 p.m. and they will be allowed to cast ballots.

Orr says his office is sending extra help to early voting sites to help with crowds. He calls turnout "already impressive." There are about four dozen early voting sites in the Chicago suburbs.

Just more than 7,700 ballots were cast on the first day of early voting in 2008. Voters can cast their ballots early until Nov. 3. Election Day is Nov. 6.
