Lincoln Continues Planning of Downtown Revitalization

width=The City of Lincoln's dream of revitalizing their downtown district continues to make progress.

The City of Lincoln was the recipient of a grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). Mayor of the City of Lincoln, Keith Snyder explains they recently held several community meetings to find out what business owners, community leaders, and the general public would like to see happen in the downtown area of Lincoln.

The grant they received from the DCEO was a two-fold grant. The first part was to be used for planning, and the second left availability to implement a few things. Mayor Snyder notes the implementation will be very limited, but it should help the plan get in motion.

Of the many things the City heard regarding things the public would like to see happen in the downtown area. Mayor Snyder says perhaps the biggest concern was parking. The Mayor says much like many communities, their downtown parking situation can sometimes be messy. Other things they heard regarded the downtown stop lights and more outside spaces for leisure and dining.

The Mayor feels balancing goals that are attainable and goals that will be a challenge should be included in the plan. He explains you want to have goals that you know you can achieve, but not have the whole plan be that way. And at the same time not make the plan so challenging it is unlikely to be implemented.

Mayor Snyder says the city will look to have the planning portion of the grant complete by the end of the year. Having a plan in place should help the city in obtaining other grants for the revitalization of their downtown. The Mayor says they will continue to seek out other grant opportunities to aid them in making this goal a reality.
