The Monticello community is hoping to rebuild a historic portion of the town that was destroyed earlier this year.

An old railroad right of-way, which became part of a hiking and biking trail west of Monticello was partially destroyed this summer due to a fireworks incident. Mayor of the city of Monticello, Chris Corrie explains that was a well used trail, which was a big loss for the community.

Fortunately for residents of Monticello and Piatt County that enjoy utilizing that trail, the Mayor says it is still able to be hiked and biked on. Mayor Corrie explains the city was planning on using the $75-thousand to repave that part of the trail. Now that money is going to reconstruction costs.

The construction has begun at the site, and according to Mayor Corrie crews hope to have construction done by the middle of this month at the latest. He notes it could be done sooner.
